12. Ecosystem Architecture

This chapter specifies how the parts of the Morloc ecosystem fit together: the compiler, the runtime library, the nexus, and the environment manager. It defines where each part is installed, how a program’s dependencies (Morloc modules and foreign packages) are resolved and locked, how an environment is frozen into a portable artifact, and how a compiled program is served to other programs and agents. The Deployment chapter shows how to use these tools; this chapter specifies what they do.

This chapter and the two that follow are written as a specification. They describe behavior, formats and guarantees rather than any particular implementation, so they should remain true of any conforming reimplementation.
